Yay + Winboard just for humanplay GUI?

Postby nomad » 29 Jun 2008 03:35

Hey guys,

I'm trying to simply use Winboard as a yahoo GUI for human playing.. not for progging..

I can get in fine and everything with Yay.. Instead of using Chessbase or Polygot, I'm simply logging in to Yay and opening the Winboard shortcut..

Works good, but GNUChess plays automatically for me. I'd like to simply play, human (myself) vs. opponents, and not prog.

This is the target line that I'm using for the Winboard shortcut:

"C:\Program Files\WinBoard-4.2.7\winboard.exe" /zp /ics /icshost 127.0.0.1 /icsport 6000 /fcp="GNUChess.exe"

I've tried taking out the FirstChessProgram variable, just deleting it.. but that doesn't work because then Winboard GUI simply doesn't start.

Is there an autoplay=no, or fcp=false type of command? I don't really know programming code/language.. just trying to figure things out from trial and error.

All I'm trying to do is use winboard as a GUI for human playing on yahoo.

I'm pretty sure I just need to put it some command in the bold line above. Can anyone take a quick second to help a brother out?

Thanks for reading. Cheers.

This one is a snap.

The Target field of the winboard shortcut should be similar to this:
"C:\Program Files\WinBoard-4.2.7\winboard.exe" /ics /icshost 127.0.0.1 /icsport 6000

In other words, do not declare the zippy option (/zp) and do not declare the first chess program option (/fcp).

Cheers,

Using engines to cheat:
- It is not ethical,
- It is useless, nothing is gained (how can one be proud of a score earn with dishonesty?)
- You will be baned, sooner or later,
- It gives us (the true chess engine players) a bad reputation.
