Hey dene, have you noticed any performance diference between 32 and 64 bit versions?

I have not.

Cheers,

- It is useless, nothing is gained (how can one be proud of a score earn with dishonesty?)
- You will be baned, sooner or later,

I know what you mean mate, ...when I engine matched the 32 and 64 bit versions here a while ago they were about even in playing strength (results wise).

Although you get aprox 50-60% higher kn/s with the 64 bit version, its strange the playing strength doesnt really seem to noticably increase.

But im sure I read somewhere you have to increase the cpu speed by 4 times (400%), like from a singlecore to a quadcore to gain up to aprox 100 elo. If this is the case it will explain why we both dont really notice any strength increase going from 32 to 64 bit versions and gaining just 50-60% extra kn/s (12 elo?).

Cheers

Hımm, do you think using two different computers (not processors) would make a difference?

Possibly yes! Then you would have Ram performance/speed in the equation aswell, which I believe can make a difference in your engines search Depth. Also operating system performance etc makes a slight difference, if one computers OS had lots of registry errors etc ...or even maybe what motherboard you are using can make slight performance differences to your programs benchmarks.

I honestly think the opening book can make more difference to playing strength than cpu, especially on longer time controls. Remember rybka on 4 threads is just aprox 100 elo stronger than rybka on 1 thread, but a very good book can make hundreds of elo difference over a poor opening book.

Somewhere out there I found a link to details of this match, but the link was dead.

Dene, can you provide a working link to details of this match?

Thanks in advance.

The latest version of Rybka is not a free engine, ...although you can download Rybka 1.0 beta for free and Rybka 2.1 Demo for Free here http://www.rybkachess.com

i always used rybka because i think is the best engine but i wanted to change for deep shredder11 and i realized that is an excellent engine i was able to win matches ( rybka 2.3.2a and deepfritz10 ) next week i will begin using zappa mexico , naum , loops , hyarcs of course the last vercions

from time to time i enjoy using another engine , you know it depends on the computer you have , 4cpu , 8 dual core , or just 32 bit
