What the heck???

YOU'RE TRAPPED! ANSWER THE QUESTION FIRST.

Why do we need to use polyglot for??? I mean we can use this right:
"Fruit 2.3.1" /fUCI /fcp="Fruit-2-3-1.exe" /fd="C:\Polygot\Engine\Fruit"

I tested that with YaY and it autoplayed. Why do we need to use the polyglot, which is more confusing and doesn't accept many engines???

Fast answers pls....
I don't know half of you, half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you, half as well as you deserve. Confused? Good. Sign of normality.

I am not familiar with fruit, but if fruit plays in winboard out of the box without needing polyglot then it should be a winbaord compatibale engine and not a UCI engine. Polyglot is needed to use UCI engines with Winboard.

Cheers,
Using engines to cheat:
- It is not ethical,
- It is useless, nothing is gained (how can one be proud of a score earn with dishonesty?)
- You will be baned, sooner or later,
- It gives us (the true chess engine players) a bad reputation.

Exactly, you can play all engines following winboard protocol directly on yahoo without any need of polyglot, for example. crafty.
You dont need to even install polyglot.just select crafty from your winboard startup i assuming that you have added those lines in winboard.ini ,and in select server write this...

"C:\Program Files\WinBoard\winboard.exe" /zp /ics /icshost 127.0.0.1 /icsport 6000 /fcp="winboar232d.exe -pipe"

Thats all ...

Same stands true for all winboard engines..like ruffian, smarthink etc.

But when you want to play a uci engine on winboard (without any chessbase program) that polglot comes into play...rybka will never work on winboard, unless you use polyglot.

Of course you can run fruit on winboard without needing polyglot.
I don't know half of you, half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you, half as well as you deserve. Confused? Good. Sign of normality.
