Two Rybka 3's under Fritz GUI

Postby Aaron87747 » 22 Apr 2009 23:02

Hi all,

Many members (including myself about a month ago) are wonder how to get two Rybka 3 engines inside their Fritz GUI so they can do engine/book battles etc. Enjoy!!

First off open up your Fritz GUI and click on the heading "Engines" then click "Create UCI Engine..."

Image

Next, browse for your currently existing Rybka 3.exe file and open it. After it loads click "Parameters"

Image

Now you have two choices on what you want to choose to change. You can either change your buffer or the Max CPU. I have done both and both of them worked fine to load into my Fritz. But for this tutorial I will be showing how to make a different buffer, so I went from 0 (default) to 40.

Image

Name the parameter file whatever you want, but be sure to include your buffer number so you know which one to use :D After you've named the file, click "Save"

Sorry about the two posts guys, forum apparently won't allow me to post that many pics so I'll just post them on the next post :D

After you do this it will return you to your parameters window. Click "Load"

Image

Choose the parameters file that you just saved and load it.

After you've loaded the parameters file, you will be able to rename the engine. I suggest keeping the Rybka 3 32-bit and just add a "40" onto it so you know its the buffer 40 engine. Once you rename it, click OK

Image

Now go back to the heading "Engines" (top of screen) and choose "Change Main Engine" (or just press F3 on your keyboard). Scroll down and you will see your new Rybka 3 engine in it!! :D

I realize that you will see the difference between picture #6 and #7 . . . that was because my free trial had ended so I downloaded another software (thanks eliasgino2007) and I think this one is pretty good; although it took me a while to get the hang of it :D

So, same engine with different parameters..

Have you figured out YaY + Chessbase yet?

Thankd for this Aaron - just one observation. I would recommend changing a parameter that does not affect the engine play then you will have a renamed Rybka which is identical. A good one to use is to change UCI_Elo from 1200 to 1201. As long as UCI_LimitStrength is not ticked then this will have no effect on the engine's play but will allow a rename.

Depends on time controls, and Rybka 3 w32 and Rybka 3 960 w32 are basically the same thing, so he should try the same parameters for both engines.
