Tutorial:How to tune .bin book using SCID!

Postby neo_the_1 » 12 Feb 2009 21:09

Well friends,
Many of the people using polyglot dont know how to tune .bin book. Most of the members might have SCID and yet they might not be knowing how to use this software to tune their book.
I m still a big fan of .ctg books...as it is very simple to tune and dont know but I feel safe when I play with it..but the drawback is it is not very good for very short time interval games because of yahoo time lag.
So I felt the need of using polyglot...then obvious how to make my own .bin book and then very imp thing...how to tune a .bin book.....It took atleast 3 days for me to mostly if not completely understand abt .polyglot and how to make.bin book. But it took more than a week to understand how to use SCID...coz no one was there to teach me how to use it effectively...matematiko suggested scid to tune .bin book and then I started workin on scid..i mean to say learning how to use all options of it.
Long intro....
Here the tutorial starts...
It is all described with pics and I already put text on the pics so you can easily figure out where to look in scid to tune your
.bin book.
First of all you should downoad and install SCID software to understand what I m talkin abt.You can google it or the link is already provided somewhere here in the forum...
But still a little bit help for you frnds...
Code: Select all
http://sourceforge.net/project/downloading.php?groupname=scid&filename=setup_scid-3.6.26.exe

Now I guess you already have the .bin book thats why you guys are reading this post...

So you need to put your .bin book in the book folder of SCID which is located in the program files of your C drive[mostly]or in the drive where your OS is installed.[eg you should look for it in "C:\Program Files\Scid\bin\books''.

Now open SCID.
and rest of the tutorial is explained by the pic and instruction on the pic...

Well I would like to remind you guys again that whenever you do anything with the book tuning...either u add move or change the weight of the move..... YOU MUST HIT THE "SAVE" BUTTON

Last but the most important thing is
DONT FORGET TO PUT THIS TUNED BOOK FROM SCID BOOK FOLDER TO BACK INTO THE WINBOARD FOLDER WHERE YOUR .BIN BOOK AND POLYGLOT IS LOCATED
OR WHEREVER YOUR .BIN BOOK OR POLYGLOT IS LOCATED AS I DONT KNOW MUCH ABT OTHER AUTOCHESS PROGS

THANKS FOR GOING THRO THIS TUTORIAL....I HOPE THIS COULD HELP CONFUSED YET ENTHUSIASTIC PEOPLE LIKE ME ON HOW TO TUNE A .BIN BOOK

Hello,

Thanks for the tutorial, but how did you combine all scid windows into one? My pgn and book windows are separate from the main scid window and it seems confusing this way.

@ tue moche...
Well friend this is not for fritz.....this is for bin books...which we are supposed to use with polyglot.....fritz has nothing to do with this.....
and about scid....there is one link already there in tutorial....and one extra version...which matematiko has posted which I hv not tried yet.....is here.....http://www.autochess.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=632

@ hannibal...I dont know which version of scid u r using but if u carefully look at the tutorial...its self explanatory that...it says if you want to tune your book just click "tools" and then from drop down box "book tuning".

One more thing many of the time you would like to add moves from other bin books......what you can do is...click "windows" in scid toolbar and from drop down box click on "Book Window".Here you can see all the books you have put in your scid book folder...you can choose the bin book from there and see the moves from there ...simultaneously in the book tuning window...you can add moves or adjust weight according to the weight of the bin book you want to follow....
I guess it might be confusing with words....so you follow this step with scid program and I bet it will be very simple....
