How Yahoo! Tournaments Work

Postby elcriollito » 02 Mar 2008 08:03

How Yahoo! Tournaments Work
Automatic Pairing and Reporting
In a Single Elimination Tournament, all of the pairing and the win/loss are automatically reported. If you win a game, you are automatically seeded to the next round to play against the next opponent. If there are openings in the tournament brackets, certain players will receive a "bye," meaning they have no game in that round.

* Please check back to this page to view the latest standings/brackets.*

Round Intervals
The next round begins when all games are completed or when the maximum round time has expired. When the round time expires and there are unfinished games the winner from those games will be the player who had used the least amount of time. Most games have a 15 minute maximum round length. Exceptions are Chess and Pool which are 20 minutes, and Go, Literati, and Backgammon which are 30 minutes.

Automatic Tables Invite
In the start of a new round, players will be automatically invited to the proper table with a message that says, "You have a scheduled game at table X. Would you like to join?" Clicking on "Yes" will automatically sit you in the table with your scheduled opponent. Only games played in these invited tables will be reported to the standings system. Once a game is over, you should exit that table and wait for a new table invite in the next round

* We recommend that you do not Create Tables before the automatic table invite as there is a chance that you might miss the invite and thus lose the round.*

Forcing Forfeits
If your opponent is a no-show, you can force a forfeit on your opponent. You will automatically win and advance to the next round after the game time expires. In order to force a forfeit, make sure it is your opponent's turn and wait 3-5 minutes.

Tournament Prizes
Trophies that can be seen in the player's profile page are awarded to the winners of Official Yahoo! Tournaments.

There are different ways to find the room code.

1. Internet Explorer gives you so little time to rigth click in the page and select "view source code" thats why:

2. I prefer FireFox for this task, once you are logged in the room you want, rigth click in a white space, select "view source" or something like that and you'll see the room code

Good luck

P.D. The code for the room at your league is: auto_chess_program_1204439831_0

Bye

Be aware that if you are not an all star memeber, the Yahoo chess server will kick you out of the rooms reserved for all-star members(Tournament room, ladder rooms and league rooms).

I know this for a fact because for a long time I was trying to cheat Yahoo by bringing non all-star IDs into all-star rooms, but I always failed and beleive me I tried real hard.

Cheers,

For those who wants to have good challenge ,this are the instruction to play in http://www.playchess.com

Requirements:
-ID
-Be connect thru Fritz GUI (u are gonna see this when open ur Fritz prog)
-Have a good engine
-Have a good opening
-Get into the Engine Room

Start computer game:

1-Menu Edit -> Playing mode

2-Choose option Computer

3-Click on Engine button, choose engine and opening book, and adjust hash tables.

4-Activate the option Automatic challenge if you want a challenge to be sent to all other players in the computer room.

5-Clock: Adjust the time limit. All games get rated.

6-Activate the option Automatic accepts if you want challenges to be accepted automatically.

If you want to challenge players manually, leave the option Automatic challenge inactive. The mode Automatic accepts accepts all challenges not diverging more than 30% from your default time limit in automatic challenges.

If you want to actively participate in a computer game yourself, choose the option option Centaur. Here you can enter or analyse moves during a game.

The playing modes Computer and Centaur only work in the computer room. All games (Computer or Centaur) get rated for the computer rating.

real competition, a lot 2700 rating playing there

Re: Official Yahoo Tournament Thread!

Postby matematiko » 15 May 2008 00:55

The tread is not only OK but is also a good idea. With your permission I'd like to change the name of the topic thou. The official Yahoo tournaments already exist and they take place every day. My suggestion will be Un-official Yahoo Advance Lounge Tournament. What you think?

If we ever do this tournament(s) it won't be official because we are not Yahoo entities or Yahoo officials to create such "official" tournaments.
