I set my opening book, the variety of play and all that how I want it and click OK but when I start the two computer match to play on yahoo the book resets to its default settings...I am at a loss of what to do about it, I'm using Fritz 9 program.
Any suggestions are awesome thanks!!

Did u follow this parameters correctly

The parameters are:

"Tournament book" - I think it is essential to turn this ON, or your color marking will not have any effect as
far as I understand.

"Variety of play" - Should book only play move with the best stat, or also try others?

"Influence of learn value" - This concerns the weights associated to the moves. If you play on server, and
a move gives some bad results and thus gets a negative weight, then the book will tend to avoid this
move if you put this parameter in the high end.

"Learning strength" - How fast do you want the weights to be changed? One bad result or several bad
(good) results are needed before the weight of a move changes a lot?

"Minimum games" - how many times does a move need to be "played" in your book (based on the
imported games) before the book will consider the stats of the moves in order to reach a decision?

And then one of the most important "parameters" in my view: Move coloring. If you make a move green,
a higher preference is given to this move. If you color a move red (and at least one other move in the
position is green), the book will not make this move.

I understand how to set the opening book settings. This is what I do, I set the book settings then click OK. Then I go to file>new>blitz game and start a new game. When the table resets so does my book settings. They go back to the random, all over the place settings. I do not know if this happens to you or not, please check, if it doesn't please help me figure out how to stop it from doing this. It really hurts my game on Yahoo when my opening book plays random moves and exits the book at the 6th move.

Edit: I'm using Fritz 11 GUI now and it is still doing the same thing....

I know how to tweak my book....that's not the problem, it's when i start a new game the book options (f4 is shortcut on fritz 11) go haywire and go back to random.

try to reset weights may be lot of red arrows in ur book. i may be wrong

it's not the opening book itself its the settings...hit F4 in your fritz GUI thats what I am talking about. The book is fine, it does it with any book I use.

Well if u r really facing this problem even after changing the defaults in book options....its a bit confusing to me...It cant happen...
tell me what book u r using.....how u set ur book options...an easy way is just click on optimize book and everything which is the best will be set for u....click ok n exit from book option....
U hv to do this everytime if u r using different book ...differnt criteria in book option...
well for me..I hv my own book with criteria like left right left[variety of play->max minus{max left};influence of learn value->max plus{max right};learning strength->max minus{max left}]
Min games->0
upto move 100
....u hv do all the time u start a new game
if u r playin on yahoo or engine matches...once u set it then its done...next time u open fritz u hv to again change the values..
If u can put a pic of ur problem it wl gv some insight to experienced members...
One small yet imp thing..when u change the setting in book option dont forget to hit OK button,,,

honestly I have to find out why,
did u see your have your engine in friend mode,u don't thing that could be the cause,try other modes

first do the blitz timing than optimize the book.every time u change book setting goes to non tournament mode
