Postby lebaron » 18 Jan 2009 06:20

Hi all; I have lap top windows vista. 2 processors, 2 G memory.I play against the engine in a 10/10 games or 10/15, but in the last days once is out of book it started to get slow, I make my move it doesn't respond, takes a long time to move. I am using ribka aquarium with ribka 3. I have scaned my computer a lot of times, I even reboot it and reenstall aquarium again still doesn't work. About 8 month ago I purchased deep hiarcs12 with fritz 10 on cd and it did the same thing, I thougth it was the program and move it to the recycle bin. Now I wonder if is the computer. Any help wellcome/ txs guys.lebaron.

Well....If Aquarium and Deep Hiarcs are doing the same, then probably is a computer problem, a virus, trojan or something.

What are the time settings in these programs?

Even if a computer appears to be working fine, a fresh start (in other words, reformat and re-install Windows) is a good thing to do every year or so.

I don't know if you already did so, but you might as well post these problem in the Deep Aquarium forum.

Sorry, for not giving you a better answer.

Good luck,
Using engines to cheat:
- It is not ethical,
- It is useless, nothing is gained (how can one be proud of a score earn with dishonesty?)
- You will be baned, sooner or later,
- It gives us (the true chess engine players) a bad reputation.

I use to encounter similar problems last year with my previous 32-bit PC. There are several conditions that results in what you're experiencing. For example, are you exceeding the RAM-Limit of your PC? There is a "rule of thumb" not to exceed 75% (I'll have to recheck % validate this number) of you overall system RAM otherwise your PC experiences what is know as "Memory Swapping" - which results in your PC responding extremely slow due to lack of resources.

Since you have 2Gb of RAMs, what is the maximum you've set for games? In other words, if you used the entire 2Gb RAMs, then it will explain the System-Slowdowns.
