Polyglot Last Versions

Postby Prima » 07 Jan 2009 12:53

Alright people, as expected with new versions of soft wares, for most part, bugs are bound to be present. Here is a bug-fixed Polyglot 1.5w version that originally was included in the WinBoard 4.3.15 Gold Pack - assuming you already downloaded it before.

The bug found (in the original Polyglot 1.5w released with Gold Pack) was that Polyglot printed nodes as opposed to PVs in thinking mode.

Here's the download link for the bug-fixed Polyglot 1.5w: http://talkchess.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... 95&t=25871

polyglot 1.4w15 released

Postby matematiko » 26 Jan 2009 00:19

polyglot 1.4w15 (24 january 2008)
changes:
Polyglot windows version does not use I/O polling anymore!
Timelosses in games with very small timecontrols (f.i. 90 moves in 4 seconds) have been reduced substantial.

Running epd tests (polyglot -epd-test ...) probably does not work anymore,a fix is not planned

Some small fixes

If you downloaded this version of polyglot, I suggest you go ahead and read the text files under the source folder. Interesting stuff in there. They are talking about learning mode on/off, book randomness on/off and more interesting stuff. I will defenetly research about this "learning" capability.

Please observe that these geniuses working on polyglot, for testing they do many things in unconventional ways...like using polyglot with a gui-less program (autoplay.exe) to have two engines playing against each other in the same computer.....it is in this scenario where they achieve the kind of speeds mentioned above (90 moves in 4 seconds).

Do not expect to achieved 90 moves in 4 seconds when playing in Yahoo Chess Server

Dene,

Will you be so kind to post your findings? We also need to find out the details about the "book learning" switch the latest versions of polygot have. Maybe I should post a topic in the Winboard forum.

The main problem I noticed with version 1.4w15 was that the engine seemed to stop moving just before checkmate 'quite often' after it had found a score of +99.** ...swapping back to an earlier version such as 1.4w4 fixed this problem here.

I'll test out 1.4w16 later.

Hi Dene,

Don't even bother wasting your time testing Polyglot 1.4w16 as the "checkmate-bug" found in Polyglot 1.4w15 is also present in Polyglot 1.4w16!

I also experience the same "checkmate-bug" you experienced - that is, upon checkmate, the actual piece(s) responsible for the mate is not displayed unless you would have to figure out how an opponent's king was mated! Very annoying to say the least.

Personally, I've opted to switch back to previous Polyglot version - Polyglot 1.4w8.

cheers,

Prima.
