Optimal Polyglot settings for Rybka?

Postby guahchessbot » 26 Jun 2008 14:02

Hey all. Got YaY and Winboard w/ Polyglot working, and am using Rybka 2.3.2a mp. What are the best settings to use? I have given it the path to my egtb, and set hash and nalimov caches to larger values (I think the larger the better).

I think I read somewhere that ponder is not useful for yahoo chess and it would only slow Rybka down. Is this true? It doesn't seem to make sense because you only ponder on the opponent's time and not your own, but maybe there's something I'm missing...

What are some other tweaks to improve performance?

Thanks for any help.

Nope, is not true.

Just like you mentioned, ponder is the equivalent of "Permanent Brain" in chessbase programs. You want your engine to continue using its "cacalater"....ooops I mean "calculator", while is your opponent's turn. Never turn ponder off.

Cheers,
Using engines to cheat:
- It is not ethical,
- It is useless, nothing is gained (how can one be proud of a score earn with dishonesty?)
- You will be baned, sooner or later,
- It gives us (the true chess engine players) a bad reputation.
