No More BreakDowns Project!

Postby m.t_mode » 16 Aug 2008 10:22

Hello everyone. I have an idea.

We all know that sometimes we might have some errors while playing in Yahoo.

For instance, the system could be frozen up, the connection could be terminated and such things.

That must be really irritating, think about it! You were just about to beat your opponent, but you got disconnected.

Such errors are sometimes due to our operating systems, and sometimes because of our browsers.

At this point, now that we all wanna be advanced Yahoo players and advanced computer users, maybe it’s time to do something about it!

What I’m trying to say is that it’s time to start tweaking our PC’s. Things like what do we do in order to have a fast and healthy operating system, what kind of softwares do we use to fix the errors, which AntiVirus program should we use, and even the browser that we use to surf the internet.

My idea is that maybe we should share our tips & tricks. I hope you’ll appreciate it.

(Fell free to give any link!)

Let me be the first one,

I think browser is one of the most important things, we all know that IE is not such a good browser, so most people prefer Mozilla Firefox; however, personally, I use SlimBrowser, which I consider to be the best one for Yahoo (It might not be the most suitable one for you, because your system’s configurations might be different)

Secondly, I use NOD32 3X as the AntiVirus software, it’s not such an advanced virus cleaner, but in comparison with Kaspersky and Norton, it doesnt tire the CPU that much.

I use TuneUpUtilities 2008 in order to fix my OS. This is an important step, too. Because some programs that we use to fix our errors might cause harm for our systems. For example, they could damage the registry. Therefore, we need to choose these kinds of programs very carefully.

Finally, I should talk about some manual tweaks. Most of the time, such tweaks are ignored by the users, but they could be useful, indeed. Related to this information, http://www.blackviper.com is my advise to you (discovered by Matematiko & Dene actually =)) You can find some nice settings and adjustments there.

That’s all from me for the time being. I’m looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks in advance......Emre.

This is true... When using tune up programs be very carefull, they can cause more harm than good sometimes!

Personally I recommend manually tuning the operating system up by tweaking settings yourself. The black Viper site is a good place to start here :ok

OK....Here are my 2 cents:

DUAL BOOT

Have one operating system for your daily needs and another one just for playing chess.

On the chess only OS, you can even go to the extreme of removing mail clients and browsers so this way you dont even need to install an anti-virus. Remove all unecessary services as well.

It is a pain in the butt to rebot constantly to change operating systems but I think the benefits are worth it.

Cheers,

P.S. Maybe this calls for a new section in the forum called:

Operating Systems: Tweaks and performance enhancement tricks.
Using engines to cheat:
- It is not ethical,
- It is useless, nothing is gained (how can one be proud of a score earn with dishonesty?)
- You will be baned, sooner or later,
- It gives us (the true chess engine players) a bad reputation.

Actually I thought the same thing matematiko, but I just want to see if people will be insterested or not. If this topic attracts enough attention, that's what I'm gonna do; however, for the time being I wanna see what's going to happen.

Martin, if you still insist on having a new section about this stuff, feel free to go for it :ok
