Possible problem with 32bit and 64bit UCI engine

Postby elcriollito » 13 Mar 2008 22:41

I will posting possibles error u will find in chessbuddy that I have found and resolved,so my solution will help others
-------------------Problem----------------
1-When loading an UCI engine make sure u use the right one, lets say u have a PC with 32 bit and u load a 64 bit version of any engine
-this is what u will find
*When opening ur prog after 1 1/2 sec will get freezed,ur prog will no works at all, can't play for ende

--------------------Solution----------------
Go to the directory of that 64bit UCI engine where u downloaded and deleted,
this is necesary because once the prog get freezed u can't choose another engine, and this chessbuddy every time u click to open and play will get freezed right away with out giving u enought time to edit or fix choosing the right engine,u will never get that time when opening it
Now u can load a new UCI engine ,but make sure is 32bit now,so u don't get freezed again

Thanks for the info criollito
Using engines to cheat:
- It is not ethical,
- It is useless, nothing is gained (how can one be proud of a score earn with dishonesty?)
- You will be baned, sooner or later,
- It gives us (the true chess engine players) a bad reputation.

I dont know about Firefox, I use Internet explorer.

About your 'no position found problem', I see you are using windows Vista. Can I ask,.. are you using the 64 bit version of Vista? and are you trying to run chessbuddy on a Quadcore pc?

The reason im asking this is because I have the same problem trying to get chessbuddy to work on my Quadcore with Vista Ultimate 64. I have not found a solution to this problem.

Note: I have no problems running the same version of chessbuddy on my laptop that has Windows XP 32 bit running on it.

something similiar happened to me,and was that my chessbuddy was connecting thru firefox, and I was login at yahoo thru IE7 (Internet Explorer),so I did a wild guess to trying to log in at yahoo thru firefox and "chakapum" I did it,

this is what is going to happend if you do this

Log in ID at yahoo --- + ---Chessbuddy connection thru = results

Internet Explorer + Internet Explorer = OK
Internet Explorer + Firefox = chessbuddy no play
Firefox + Firefox = OK
Firefox + Internet Explorer = chessbuddy no play

If you are running Vista 64 on a Quadcore I dont think you will get chessbuddy to work properly. If you can, then let me know, but I have not been able to here (although I wasnt too bothered really, and didnt make too much effort to try and find a solution).

Out of interest, Im trying to find out if the reason for this is Vista 64, the Quadcore cpu or the combination of both. Anyone running a 32 bit version of windows on a Quadcore who can test this?
