to auto boot low rated players...do you type that exact line into the ICS box ?

set formula rating>=1500 this command 1500- boot

can you change 1500 to 1200 for example ?
thanks

Of course you can. This number stands for the rating level, the players who have less ratings than this level will get automatically booted.
And yes, you should type this command into the ICS box.

It's all about the engine you load into your playing software, which you connect to the Yahoo by using Yay.

By the way, there's another formula variable you can use. I set this as default for STUCI and it is:
set formula ratingdiff >= -300

That means you will play anyone rated 300 points under you and higher. This is good for when you're away and your rating changes but you can't update the rating formula.

Concerning STUCI and why it's never really done... here's a metaphor: Instead of being a construction worker, I'd rather be an architect.
Losing too many games because of a slow PC? No problem, nUCI it!

thanks m.t

i dont mean to be so dumb here, but im just learning this thing.

when i typed that line into the ICS box, (set formula rating>=1500 this command 1500- boot) it said "bad variable" what did i do wrong ? i typed it exactly what is in parentheses

also about the engine. is the engine that is loaded in chessbase prog the one that is playing ?

sorry but this gets confusing when youre just learning

OK, you should type it like this:
set formula rating>=1500
I mean, omit the "1500 this command 1500" part and try this way.

Yes, it's about the engine you load into the CB program, stuff like Create an UCI Engine, Change The Main Engine, these are the titles of it.

thanks a million m.t for all your help

one more thing please....is there a way to force the prog to make a move ?

sometimes it sits there for a long time and it would be nice to be able to make it move.

You're welcome.
Of course, there is, check this picture out:

Keep in mind that, for each time you press this button, the engine will make a move, which means by keeping pressing it, you can make engine play versus itself :D

MT

thanks for the pic showing me where to force a prog move.

however when i load Yay...when i get to the part where i click "new > two computer match etc
on the chessbase prog ....when i finish that sequence of steps the face of the chessbase prog changes and the green GO button is a red STOP button and i can find no way to change it.

i hope i explained that well.

Wow, you mean you want to force the engine to move while getting it played automatically through Yay???
Well, I'm sorry but you can't do that, you shouldn't interfere with the engine while it's connected to Yay, if you want your engine to play fast, you should set its time and parameters before starting to play, here is an example settings of parameters for playing fast:
http://uploaded.to/?id=8rba16 <----dead link
if your engine still stops playing during the game, it means that you have a big problem, make sure that the engine you're using is not a clone one and your book is well-optimized, because sometimes, we might accidentally change the playing system of our books, which results in engine's either making random moves or stopping moving.

i think your answers were more than helpful m.t. i'm very glad you're here :D

i set a game time of 8/5 and the prog ran out of time. i set that same time (8 min 5 sec inc) in the prog timer.

the prog just seems to take forever to make a move.....i guess i'll keep messin with it until it works ok.
