ARENA 2.0 / Auto 232-Internet Player Released!

Postby Prima » 23 Dec 2008 09:51

Hi People,

For information and all those Arena-Lovers, Arena 2.0 has been released and this time, the Arena Auto 232 Player now connects to internet.

I just connected to Yahoo & watch games via Arena 2.0 + STUCI + Polyglot,
Arena 2.0 + YtoICS + Polyglot,
Arena 2.0 + YaY + Polyglot.

I haven't had time to actually test out how it plays over the Internet or Yahoo.

Note: For those who aren't well farmiliar with most GUIs, unlike Fritz which uses .Ctg, or Shredder GUI which uses .Bkt, Arena uses the book etension .Abk!

Here's the download link : http://www.playwitharena.com.

Take care y'all.

First either download Arena 2.0 Zip or install Arena 2.0 Set Up - either way, have the Arena icon ready on your desktop.

Here are the steps of using Arena's Auto-Player 232 to connect to Yahoo.

Of course, this is under the assumption you already download and install any or all Yahoo ICS Emulators: STUCI, YtoICS, or YaY:

With Polyglot:

1. Click on STUCI or YtoICS or YaY,

2. Enter your User Name + Password, and the Captcha Test Words,

3. Enter Room ID of your choice,

4. This is where the ICS Emulator prompts: Please load WinBoard in ICS mode now.

5. Click on the Arena 2.0 Icon on your desktop (or whereever you chose to place it)

6. From the Arena's Menu, Select--->Extras<---\ AutoPlayer \ Start Connection
Note, if you didn't configure your engine parameters, it will warn you about this anyway. And that's it..you're connected to Yahoo.

For Use of Arena 2.0 as your major GUI, as in Fritz, ChessBase or Shredder (without Polyglot) - it is exactly the same method of connection and you're in Yahoo

Important - It is highly recommended to study the Arena Menus for the sake of familiarity & easy navigations.

Hello, Prima..
Do u know which Opening Book is the best for Arena?
After finishing Arena 2.0 installation, try to look at C:\Program Files\Arena\Books\
u will see only 3 opening books:
1. Olympiad.abk (only 529 Kb)
2. Titus2.4.abk (only 469 Kb)
3. Little-Mainbook.abk (only 7.4 Mb)

As I told before, I use Arena 1.99beta5 which i download from the rapidshare link, This version of Arena use 'Opening Book.abk' and it has greater file size, about 23.6 Mb..

If u know which is the best book for Arena, please share with me...
Thanks a lot...

Just be aware that at the moment Arena is not supported while using it with YaY, or at least not by us (The developers of YaY). But please do not get discouraged, maybe other scripts do or maybe other users do know a lot about using Arena.

Good luck in your quest,
Using engines to cheat:
- It is not ethical,
- It is useless, nothing is gained (how can one be proud of a score earn with dishonesty?)
- You will be baned, sooner or later,
- It gives us (the true chess engine players) a bad reputation.

Yes. Install Polyglot as well as create a Polyglot INI file(s) for UCI engine(s) first. You can find about setting up Polyglot from the Polyglot Section.

Currently I don't know the best or strongest .Abk book for Arena as I've never used Arena to play Online or for any reason. You're better off getting one of the best .Abk book from the Rybka Home Page or use Google to search for one.
Generally, it is good if the .Abk book used is bigger - to prevent "Out-of-Book" issues even before game ends.

I wish I could be of more help in the know-how in Optimizing Arena but as stated earlier, I've never used Arena to play Online Chess or use it for Engine-Engine matches off-line. Therefore, in all honesty, my knowledge on how to use & navigate Arena is limited and, at present, still trying to study Arena

NOTE: I omitted the "Next Step: Step 7" which is, after Step 6, you can then click on your WinBoard for Polyglot and select : Use an Internet Chess Server which will then connect you to Yahoo.
For using Arena as the sole GUI, it's the same as using Fritz but with a little modification.

Thanks Matematiko..

First, i'm sorry for my bad English or Grammar...
I hd already run Yay_Ultimate.exe, insert username n password, room code, and then the scramble word....while logging in, the error occurs, something about .dll files...and i find the solution in other section of this forum...
After succesfully login, i run Arena and try to connect but it fails... :|

I don't know if Arena isn't supported by YaY..Thanks for your information...

I'm just a beginner for chess tool or software...i'm very interesting about auto playing program after i watch the bot vs bot match at yahoo chess server last week...

Btw, i'm still waiting for your continuous post tutorial about Polyglot...because,, until now...i have nothing n know nothing about autoplaying program n never success in my journey... :crasha just try n keep trying but always fail... :crasha maybe it was because i don't know the main concept. :crasha

I hope your tutorial about Polyglot will become my first education, and of course, as u mentioned before, u don't need to worry about my computer knowledge (ie.command prompt, unzipping files, or any kind of computer skill except programming).. :D

Again, thanks a lot my friend...

Hello Prima...
Can u please give me a more detail about point no.4...what is the mean of load Winboard??
In C:\Polyglot\YaY_Ultimate\ ==> I found the winboard232d.exe
Should i run that file? I run it and got a blank command prompt screen... :smile20

Thanks... i will read it carefully...

Yeah, the greater size the better it should...after reading so many posts, i think the .abk opening book seems to be incompatible with another version of chess GUI...can we convert the .ctg file to .abk file??
is there another free light GUI like Arena which use the compatible Opening Book like .ctg one?
I hv already browse the Arena Website, trying to search some up-to-date opening book but found nothing except the old one (year 2007), and some other small sized books.

Thanks a lot Prima...for your sharing n help...
