2 processes for Rybka 3

Postby Pogi » 06 Mar 2010 11:43

Hi!

Here is the situation:
I have Core 2 Duo 3GHZ, Windows 7 Ultimate, 2GB RAM
I open Fritz 12 GUI, choose a particular engine, analyse a game using Blunder Check.

Observation:
While the above operation is ongoing, I check Windows Task Manager and see processes which are running, and note that:

If the particular engine is Rybka 3, there shows two (2) Rybka 3 engines in process.
If the particular engine is Fritz or Igorrit or Firebird 1.1 only one is in process. :hong

I checked the parameters of Igorrit and Firebird and selected 2 CPU, but still one process shows for each engine.

Is the above normal? :?

I finished a 7-game match between Rybka 3 x64\Core 2Duo 2.2 GHZ versus Igorrit v9 x64\SU7300 and the results favor Rybka 4/7. Time control is 10 minutes/game. I know the SU7300 is weaker but I was looking for an excuse, hence I entered this post.

Also, 7 games is not enough I think. But the way I did was tedious, manually entering the moves on two computers. I have my network configured as Workgroup, as I have not learned how to connect PCs in LAN as Server/Workstation, which is how Fritz auto232 would accept only. Or is there some workaround to this?

Thanks :crasha

Pogi,

Regarding the number of processes yes this is normal that Rybka shows several processes running and other engines show only one. The important thing to check is the % CPU being used by the process. If you have a 2 core PC then if you run a single processor engine CPU in task manager will be 50% but if the engine is using 2 cores then the process will show 100% (or almost as the GUI uses some). Similarly on a quad processor if the engine is using all 4 it will show 100% CPU in task Manager, whereas Rybka is different it will show 4 x 25%.

2 processes for Rybka 3

Goldminer thanks for explaining.

Meanwhile I continued with testing Firebird 1.2x64 which I let run on the slower SU7300 versus Rybka 3x64 running on Core 2 Duo 3.00. Ten minutes per game. Rybka using Fritz12.ctg and Firebird on Rybka.ctg.

3 games were finished last night, the first two games drawn. The 3rd game reached the endgame with equality and for a while I thought there will be another draw. Three games drawn by Firebird using weaker resources is noteworthy in itself. Although that was not the case because Rybka lost.

I really must start to get things going on auto232 so that I can have more data.

Again thanks a lot!
